Date: June 7th and 8th, 2025 (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (MDT) at Lukachukai Community School
Location: Lukachukai Community School
What: This workshop aims to develop a culturally adapted, two day curriculum open to youth learners (9th-11th graders), with an emphasis on hands-on image capture, coding, and training AI!
15 participants will learn the essential AI and machine learning skills and create AI-powered tools for learning language through image recognition training models.
Limited to 15 participants. Food will provided. Be sure to apply!

Camp Description
Ke’yah Advanced Rural Manufacturing Alliance (KARMA), a Native-led grassroots nonprofit, invites 9th-11th graders to participate in the Image Recognition for Indigenous Sovereignty (IRIS) Workshop. This unique 2-day experience will introduce you to the exciting world of artificial intelligence and its potential to strengthen cultural resilience.
You’ll learn the essential skills of AI and machine learning, including image capture, coding, and AI training models. Our culturally adapted curriculum emphasizes the Navajo language (Dine’ bizaad), showing you how to create AI-powered tools for language learning and preservation.
What You’ll Learn:
- Ability to maintain access to the models you create (with internet access)
- Introduction to machine learning and coding
- Understanding of data sovereignty and community-driven AI models
- Hands-on experience refining machine learning models
- Skills to incorporate the Navajo language in both auditory and written forms
